NID Board Declares Stage 2 Drought

During a special meeting on July 1, 2021, the Board moved the drought declaration to Stage #2. What does this mean?

Treated Water Customers

  • Pricing increase for volumetric rate of approximately 25%
  • Mandatory usage reduction of 20 percent as compared to the same time period in 2020
  • Limited Outdoor Watering to three days a week
    • Even address numbers, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
    • Odd numbered addresses Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
    • None on Sundays
    • Only before 10am and after 9 pm
    • No water run-off leaving property

Raw Water Customers

  • Pricing increase for volumetric summer water rate of approximately 20%, prorated from July 1, 2021 through October 14, 2021
  • Voluntarily reduce your water purchase by emailing customer service@nidwater.com
  • No new or increased sales including fall or winter water, except for limited winter sales to existing customers
  • Landscape irrigation limited to three days a week
    • Even address numbers, Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
    • Odd numbered addresses Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
    • None on Sundays
    • After 9 pm and before 10 am
    • No water run-off leaving property

Quick Hints for Saving Water

  • Check for leaks and get them fixed
  • Turn water off while scrubbing hands, body, hair, dishes
  • Wash only full loads in the washing machine or dishwasher
  • If letting grass go dry and trees are dependent on the same sprinklers, continue to water trees at reduced intervals. Even oak trees get used to the water and will die of shock if change is too quick.
  • Always use a shut off nozzle on hoses when manually watering or washing cars
  • Switch to low flow shower heads and faucets

Long Term

  • Replace all appliances and toilets with energy savings ones
  • Consider re-landscaping to minimize outdoor water use

New General Manager
Jennifer Hanson,
GM NID

I am happy to welcome Jennifer Hanson, our newly appointed general manager, selected from a field of 40 applicants. She is the current city manager of Lincoln. Previously, she served as Lincoln’s Public Works director, which included supervision of the city’s waste, wastewater, transit, and recreation divisions. She is a geologist by training and worked also nine years in the fields of storm quality and transportation management. She has strengths and knowledge in management organization, infrastructure, strategic planning, and finances. I am very much looking forward to working with her.
